Kathryn and an orphan elephant, Nairobi, Kenya.
Hi, I’m Kathryn Ann Jankowski a Canadian visual artist who had the opportunity to live and work in East Africa for 6 years. When my camera broke in Tanzania, I started to document the world around me in sketchbooks with ink and watercolor.
Creating illustrated journal entries became a daily activity. This led to some very interesting experiences and the development of other art projects including stop motion puppets and an award-winning 6-minute film “The Metamorphosis of a Bottle Cap”.
My time in Tanzania sparked an interest in documenting my surroundings with traditional techniques. I am pleased this inspiration followed me on my next adventure into the Netherlands where I currently reside with my husband.
